|
The Junior Service Team at Nine Ashes is being set up to provide a service team for the County activity centre and camp site, while allowing Explorer Scouts to put into practice the skills they have learnt through Scouting, and to learn new ones. These activities will count towards the Duke of Edinburgh and Scouting Awards schemes. |
||
The Junior Service Team operates under the same rules, regulations and guidelines of any specialist Explorer Scout unit. |
|||
Membership of the Junior Service Team.
Membership of the Junior Service Team is open to anyone aged 14-18 yrs old who are currently registered as an explorer scout with a district – this will be verified by confirmation from their DESC or by official membership number.
To remain a member of the Junior Service Team young people will also have to commit to attend at least one Junior Service Team day per term.
Parental consent will be obtained. |
|||
Junior Service Team Days
The Junior Service Team will meet on the second Sunday of each month - 10am until 3pm, at Nine Ashes Scout Activity Centre.
With regards to the monthly programme, a fair amount of time will be spent working on the site, but not all of it !! – Each month will also include an element of adventure, training and of course fun, friends and social time.
We will have adventure activities, Scouting skills, overnight camps and DofE expeditions.
In addition, they will have the opportunity to undertake training and qualifications to assist in running some of the activities offered by the site such as climbing, crate stacking, archery, mountain biking and orienteering. |
|||
Definition of 'Working on the Site':
Maintaining the site's facilities, running activities, designing and building new activities, creating programmes for Groups to undertake etc. |
|||
|
|||
How much will it cost to become a Member ?
There is a £10.00 initial joining fee which includes a JST Polo shirt and ID Card.
As Junior Service Team members are also explorer scouts there will be no need to pay Scout Association fees again – therefore there will be no annual costs to becoming a team member.
Junior Service Team members are also responsible for their own travel to and from the team days and for any personal clothing and supplies they need while attending activities. |
|||
What equipment will Junior Service Team members need ?
It's not all work !
With this being the case, team members are advised to bring full spare clothes for each day along with towel and wash kit. For those times when there is the opportunity to stay on site team members will need their own personal camping and expedition gear.
When working on site it is advisable that team members have the following equipment:
Strong Footwear (boots as opposed to trainers) Wellies Waterproofs Packed Lunch and/or snacks Hat and Gloves (work gloves are best) Please note Jeans or similar are not advisable in wet conditions. |
|||
How does it fit in with DofE?
Nine Ashes also aims to provide Junior Service Team members the opportunity to undertake training and assessment for their Bronze or Silver Expeditions either by walking or cycle expeditions. |
|||
How do I join the JST?
A full membership pack will then be sent to you with more details about the JST and an application form. |
