ABOUT EXPLORERS

What are Explorer Scouts:-

The Scout Association has changed it's age ranges and programme provision for young people.

A new section called Explorer Scouts has been formed to cater for the 14 - 18 year olds.

The whole idea of this new section is to be more flexible in the way it delivers Scouting, to meet individuals lifestyles and pressures on their time such as coursework, jobs and exams etc.

The most fundamental change is that Explorer Scouts MUST be registered and their programme managed at District level under the leadership of the District Explorer Scout Commissioner.

Individual Groups can enter into a partnership agreement with a District to operate Explorer Scouting in their locality.

The Explorer Scout programme will be designed to be exciting, challenging, adventurous and FUN with the emphasis strongly on the 'OUT' in Scouting following the Associations aims and methods but working more closely with other providers such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and National Governing Body Awards schemes.

This will offer the individual more choices and more recognised awards.

The nice thing about the new Explorer Scout set-up is that it enables you to participate in Scouting as often or as little as your time and other commitments allow.
